If you’re looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle, Guernsey is the perfect spot for a break. This tiny island nestled between England and France offers something that’s hard to find in big cities: true peace and quiet and some absolutely stunning views.
Cliffside walks
The island’s biggest draw is definitely its cliffs. Miles of paths stretch along the south coast, where you’ll have green meadows on one side and steep drops into the blue sea on the other. The scenery is incredible. Best of all, the trails are well-marked, so you won’t get lost. You’ll often spot people just sitting on benches, taking in the ocean air.
Famous cows and ‘golden’ milk
While exploring Guernsey, you’ll soon notice the cows grazing in the fields. They’re quite special – light brown in colour and famous all over the world. Their milk is different from what you’d buy at a typical supermarket; it has a yellowish, almost golden tint and is very rich. Locals use it to make delicious butter, cheese, and thick cream. You’ve got to try the local ice cream – it’s on another level because it’s made with such high-quality milk.
Life in a little port
The main town, St Peter Port, looks like it’s straight off a postcard. There are colourful houses tucked into the hillsides, with yachts and fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. You won’t find any massive shopping centres here. Instead, there are lovely little shops, bakeries, and cafes where life moves at a much slower pace. No one is in a rush, and people are incredibly friendly. It’s the perfect place to sit by the water, grab some fresh fish, and just enjoy the moment.
Why is it worth a visit?
Guernsey is a brilliant place for a quick stop, especially if you’re travelling by ferry. The island is so small that everything is within easy reach. You can spend the morning walking along the coast, grab lunch at a local restaurant, and be back on your ship by the evening. It’s the perfect spot to slow down and recharge your batteries in a beautiful setting. 🙂
